An Extra Seat in the House

Several people have commented on my little stool,
one even went so far as to push me to show it up closer.
SOOOOOOOOO........
I will start today's post with my little stool.
I placed it in front of my coffee table, 'cuz there was a bare spot in the floorplan,
and I don't like
BARE SPOTS!!!!!
NOPE, NOPE, NOPE.
When I was futzing around, and moving stuff hither and yon,
this little stool didn't look anything like it does now.
THIS WAS BEFORE I HAD MY BLOG, AND I DIDN'T TAKE A BEFORE PICTURE!!!!
OH NO!!!!!
But I liked its scale and shape, so I
REDID THE SUCKER!!!!
I have had this thing knocking around in my inventory for 20 years, always planning to use it at a client's house.
WELL, NOW IT'S MINE....
BWA HA HA!!!
It was dark wood, and all lumpy with sprung springs covered in a dirty old tapestry fabric.
So I stripped it down to the frame,
pulled all the old nails out of it,
and realized that once the nails and tacks were gone,
there wasn't that much wood left.
I got some great advice from Gill, my buddy at Drape It, who does their reupholstering for them.
He's always massively generous with help and sharing his knowledge.
So I spent three days,
filling all the holes with wood glue,
 letting it dry,
 and then applying more glue,
until the frame was rebuilt into a hybrid of wood and glue.
Now I could
PAINT IT!!!!
Yippee doodle!!!

And then I was ready to reupholster this time sucking demon of hell.....
So I...
attached webbing to the bottom.....
sewed springs to the webbing.....
8 way hand tied the springs.....
attached burlap over the springs.....
attached fox edging around the edge.....
adhered foam to the burlap.....
covered the foam with dacron stapled in place.....

And then sewed the cover with scraps of my remaining fabric....
I had to do it piece meal, 'cuz there wasn't enough left to cover the top.
I used the trim to cover the seam.....
mitering the corners...

and the blue left over linen for the sides.....
I have big bins of left over trim from my years of sweating away as an
INTERIOR DESIGNER....
so I pulled out some tassels and attached them to the bottom edge...

It was lookin' good baby!!!!!
YEP IT WAS!!!!

So now I have an extra seat in my living room.
You know.....
the room that...
only I sit in,
'cuz my family only sits
in my family room.
(talk about literal, jeesh!!!)
So it's really good that I have this extra seating!!!!!

So that's it for today,
I was going to go on a rant about Target, because they pulled a really slimy move on me this morning, but I will write about that some other time.....

Oh man, don't let Nita see this post! SHe will rant on about slimy Target for you, they don't treat their employees very well either...you have me wondering. Loved the stool, and just wanna know, will you be my upholsterer???

OMG, would you please be my teacher, upholsterer, mentor...the steps you took to make your beautiful stool has me in awe.
I would have bagged the whole project, when it came to sewing the springs to the webbing...that would have done it!
You could come visit me when you come back to Florida, I live on the West side.....and I cook:)
I love your blog.

If it was Target.com, watch your credit account!!!! Talk about slimy...they bumfoozled an entire credit card for me and it has taken me two years to straighten it out. Their customer service is NOT!
Your stool is beautiful though...thank you so much for telling us how you made it.

Betsy, that little stool is too pretty to use for extra seating. It should be seen at all times and not with someone's feet or "you know what" on it. Thanks for showing another fabulous design by Betsy!! Hope to see you next week at Your Cozy Home Party. If you grill, BBQ or do picnics, join me for a special party June 17-23. I bet you have some fantastic ideas for decorating outdoor events like the above mentioned. ---------------- Shannon

well, I'm a little late to the party since this was a "sometime back" post, but had to let you know I really laughed at your comment regarding you being the only one to sit in the room so you "needed" more seating! Really appreciated the humor!
