My Florida Study, the final chapter

When I first bought my home in Florida, I was pretty excited about the tropical vibe, and got a little carried away when buying my fake flowers.
Over the years, I've been weeding out the overly colorful and replacing them with varying kinds of white blossoms.

I've always been a sucker for a bouquet of solid white flowers, but it took me a while to translate that into my fake bouquets.

That brings us back to my study.......
Since I've been telling you guys about this room, I reappraised it with a more critical eye, and saw some things that needed tweaking that I had become blind to.
(Oh, no, I ended that sentence in a preposition, and I'm too lazy to fix it. This is a blog, after all, not a @#$ literary masterpiece.)

This is what I had.....

Vibrant, colorful, bordering on tacky!!!!!
Here's a closer shot!!!!

So, I headed over to Micheals last week, and got me some white fake flowers!!!!

Then, while I was standing back, and admiring how brilliant I was, I thought.....
"Betsy....why not hang your new tray from ebay over the whole megillah?"
So I did!!!!!

I really like the way the white blossoms in the tray are reflected by my white fake flowers!!!!

The tin globes are my collection of vintage worlds from ebay of course.
If I had more shelf space, I would really go crazy with this grouping.
I don't know what it is about them, but they really appeal to me.

The blue vase is a piece of McCoy pottery, it's a shape that I find extremely pleasing.....

At least I think it's McCoy.....
My memory isn't what it used to be.

One of you guys commented on how you liked my vintage shelf.
The shelving
IS NOT
vintage, but sold by Palecek.

That's just an FYI.

So, by a little tweaking, I created a corner of my study more to my liking, and it's all because of this blog.
If I hadn't been writing about this room, I wouldn't have noticed how garish those flowers were, and I wouldn't have had to
BUY MORE STUFF!!!!

Because I purchase items with no idea how I will use them.....
I reinvent their function.

This is was a planter.
Presto chango!!!!
Now it's a pencil cup!!!!!

I bought the lamp from a local store, but found the shade on ebay.
It's one of my favorite items.
It's a fiberglass shade from the 1950's

Truly
FUNKTASTIC!!!

When I was at Michaels purchasing my fake flowers.....
I bought more than I needed for the blue vase.....
I always buy more than I need, figuring I will return what I don't use.
There are few things worse than working on a floral arrangement and not having enough stuff!!!!!
(OK, that was a gross exaggeration, there are a lot of things that are much worse.)
(My Tivo not recording the finale of the Bachelor.)
(I am such a highbrow)

So.....
I had extra flowers and decided to rework the arrangement on the decoupaged table.
 changed it to this
It was this.....

GREAT
The old picture looks betters than after I changed it.
what the @#$????
I'm supposed to be a fabulous decorator????!!!!!

On that note, let me share one more photo I keep on my desk.
It's of me when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade (I think), I'm going by the pants I'm wearing in the shot.
I REMEMBER THOSE PANTS!!!!!
They were green cotton twill, I would have worn them every day if I could have.
THEY WERE WAY COMFORTABLE.
THEY HAD AN ELASTIC WASTE BAND!!!!
Somethings never change.

I was a ham then.....
I'm a ham now.....
and I still love elastic waste bands!!!!!

You are a ham with splendid globes, wall art and cool blog conversation. I cannot do faux flowers but you make them look fine.

The white flowers really work better in the room and compliment that great fabric you used on your chair and window. Does the fabric have monkeys on it too? I love when it does. Still enjoying your Flordia decorating...keep it coming!

Love the white flowers so much. They really tie everything together and look real. I too love that bamboo shelf. I love it that you always do vintage Florida in your Florida houses. I would so do that if I lived in Florida. My best friend lived in Tampa for awhile and she hated all tropical and wanted her house to NOT reflect Florida at all when inside. I always thought it a shame...that she should embrace the tropics while she was there. She knew she would only be there for a few years. I totally would have gone all Florida souvenirs and such....but then those things wouldn't have worked in her Memphis home where she lives now. So perhaps she was the smarter one. Hmmmmm...I think probably so.

I can't wait until you get back east, that is strange and wonderful country to a born and bred So. Californian. Your Floridian Funk is fun but I am just itching to see the great stuff you will do in the Eastern outback.

I have recently "re done" my living room and it is not pleasing to me, I am a pretty cocky old lady and have huge dec. balls this is my second mistake in a year.............senility??? I have great arguments with you. You would terrify me in person but I hold my own when you are across the country. The thing is you are funny and love dogs...............and can upholster, you are an awesome woman!!!!
