Cottage Garden Terrace

First off.....
In case you guys are wondering about why I use the word "cottage" in so many of my titles.....
(Amy figured this out)
It's so search engines will land on my blog!!!!!
IF I CAN'T BE BEAUTIFUL.....
I BETTER BE SMART!!!!!

Second point to start today's post.....
THANK YOU
THANK YOU
THANK YOU
THANK YOU
THANK YOU!!!!!!!
The outpouring of support in the comment section of my last post was
heartwarming and just WONDERFUL!!!!!
To date, I have
74
comments!!!!!
As the last kid picked for ALL the sport teams, that is....
gratifying, fabulous, terrific, stupendous, etc. etc. etc.
I can still hear the kids from next door saying, when teams were being picked for softball.....
"You got Peter (my big brother), you have to take Betsy."
AND THEN.....
Peter would see how long it would take before he could upset me enough to send me home crying.
HE STILL THINKS THIS IS FUNNY!!
If I were him, I would be more careful who I made fun of.....
His wife,
(my sister-in-law) (and one of my best friends)
(and no I'm not saying that to be polite, she doesn't even bother to read my blog.....JEESH!!!!)
(and while I'm at it, let me point out that she's Miriam's mother.)
OY, where was I???????
Oh yeah,
Peter making fun of me.....
He better watch it.....
He needs to replace some stuff around his house.....
and his wife, Faye, is relying on me to help her out.

Oh, boy....I'm off on another tangent.
Let's get back to decorating!!!!!
Several folks commented on the chairs in my barbecue terrace....
These are commonly called French Garden Chairs,
They are actually Pinwheel spring steel chairs, said to have originated in 19th century France.
The four I have are reproductions I bought from a catalogue around 15-20 years ago,
I can't remember.....
I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW MUCH TIME HAS PASSED!!!!!
I still think of them as my new garden chairs.
 they are actually very comfortable.
The sprung steel straps give to weight
(leave the comments alone, about that)
 and act like a pillow.....
THEY ARE TRES CHIC!!!!!

Ho Kay.....
Let's move on to
MY OTHER TERRACE.
Yeah, yeah, I have two....
Yawn.....
I am so sophisticated and entitled...
My condo mansion has two.

This is the view as you come around the back from the barbecue terrace...
to my lounge around and don't get anything done terrace....
At the back, just to the left of those three arborvitae, is the gate into my parents terrace.
So I am in charge of
3
terraces.
Which means I get to weed them,
bring the furniture in and out in the spring and fall,
and repair anything that goes awry.
AND SOMETHING IS
ALWAYS
GOING AWRY!!!!!

I bought my outdoor sofa, chairs and coffee table from Restoration Hardware.
Some assembly required!!!!!
ha ha ha
Took me hours to put it together.
But it's very comfy.
The pillows and umbrella are from Potter Barn.
This is a better shot into my parents terrace.
You guys are so lucky!!!!!
Not just anybody gets to see back there.....
I am going to show more, and write more about this space, but I am done for today.
TODAY'S EXCUSE
for not doing a longer post.....
is.........
I have hives.
and I don't feel so good.....
My doctor thinks I have a virus since I'm running a fever.
None of my friends and family will come near me!!!!!
But being the trooper that I am....,
(and because I am SOOOOOO very bored)
I wrote this post for your entertainment!!!!!
I hope by my next post these friggin bumps will be gone.
Who knew......
itching could be so bad?????

Now when I was a young woman, I felt a different sort of itch,
but that's for another day,
and a different type of blog!!!...

Gosh, you crack me up! You lucky thing you, having two terraces. You know how I'm getting anything resembling a terrace, or patio, is we are resurfacing the end of our driveway, because we have a l o n g driveway. Our back door is on the side of our house, and we live in a 4 level back split, so when you walk out our "back" side door, ta! da! you will be on our driveway turned patio. Hey, a girl's gotta' do what a girl's gotta' do!

You are very fortunate to have your sister-in-law as one of your best friends. I envy you that, you lucky girl, you!

Betsy! Love your blog! Love your style! Also - I remember the Sanderson ads from the previous post! I think I even clipped the ad(s) for my decorating idea files. I have my home decorated in a combo of Sanderson and Waverly tea dyed fabric and for decor projects I have tea dyed other floral fabric. ('memba the "Out of Africa" style? Everybody was going gaga over the furniture in the movie set design.....AND, I agree that there is no such thing as too many roses!)
Love your house - esp. the bookcase/wardrobe in your condo living room, along with the trays used as wall art. I have recently moved to the south and have found these in all of the antique malls, lucky me!
Anyway, you humor and talent is appreciated and I am sooooo glad that I found your blog!

Feel better soon Betsy! And thank you for your blog and funny posts. I bet all those kids are kicking themselves now for not picking you for their team.

lovely backyard!

I hope you didn't get hives because of that Jack-ass the other day.

You are a trooper, be well!

I too had a big brother whose life revolved around making me cry. Paybacks are hell and I'm the one in the power position now!!! Oh, and I got hives for the first time in my early 50's as a reaction to everyday, ordinary ivy!!! Now I can't work in the garden where there is ivy around and I've had to change my diet to a lot more greens (as we all should) to keep it at bay. Green smoothie every morning and I don't get the skin issues at all, although I still am not going near ivy because that is a terrible miserable itch and I'm not taking chances. Love your blog and have turned so many people on to it.

lol! Thanks for making us laugh! Hey, I have the same floral PB pillows on my wicker rockers on the front porch! Cool! And those hives are wicked! That's one itch that we share! I was told by a holistic doctor that calcium tablets stop the histamine effect. Sometimes 6 do it for me, but I've taken up to 14. It works for me, maybe it will help you, too! I also use Bio-Freeze on the itch -- any similar product containing menthol should help. Feel better soon!

Love this post - the terraces are lovely. I'd missed yesterday's posting and was shocked to see the notes wirtten to you. The "attitude" he finds unpleasant is exactly what brings me to your blog. I adore your writing, love your style, and so appreciate your humor! Your blog is wonderful - don't change it for anything.

In my last comment, I forgot to say "... and HE says 'attitude' like it's a dirty word. It's definitely NOT!

Betsy, hope you feel better soon.....don't know what we would do without your blog to keep us laughing. I love your sense of humor, keep it coming girl.

I would love to have a comfortable terrace like yours. I wouldn't get anything done though as I would be out there reading every minute.

Oh Dear, Please make sure you don't have shingles! I hope you feel better...love, love your blog...your fun attitude and how neat that you live right by your parents. Did you help decorate their cottage too?

OMG Betsy you slay me! "A different sort of itch"!! Laughter is the best medicine. But make sure to drink plenty of fluids and rest and maybe an antihistamine for those hives.
Take care. Hugs, Laura

I think you are the luckiest girl on the planet because you have, like, so many terraces and because you live next door to your parents!!! What amazing condos y'all live in, my dream in life is to downsize to a condo (when the kids are grown, they're teens now). I'd love to bounce up and down in those springy awesome chairs! Mary

Oh I hate Hives! Take 2 benadryl every 6 hours and a cool shower, lots of times. I get them when I go out into the sun for too long, you'd think I'd learn, but, no, I forget everytime. Also, sadly, but true, my Mother gives me the Hives, (I think that is nerves, lol) ( and I am old, like born in 1954! old)
So 2 banadryl and cool showers, a dark room helps to rest too. Hope this helps. Paula

Hi again- Your spring chairs were sold as a bistro set in different colors at....hold it....Kmart the summer of 2011. My aunt has some from my uncle's aunt that were from the 1940's. I've always coveted them. lol
