WOWZER!!!!!
Since I blogged on 12/26/2011 begging you guys to sign up and become my followers (having no shame), you have done me proud, I tell ya, proud!!!
I went from having somewhere in the 70's, to having a whopping 295!!!!!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
If you haven't become a follower (you know who you are, that's right, I'm staring right at you. Nooooo, not the person behind you..... YOU!); that's alright. Don't worry about me. I'll be fine.
Today I'm going to start sharing a showhouse room that I did on cape cod.
Traditional Home Magazine 1999
June, (my trusty sidekick, office manager, design assistant, moral supporter, and dear friend) worked with me on this room in 1998!!!
It was published in Traditional Home Magazine in 1999.
Lone agoooooo and farrrrr away.
We collaborated with my my drapery workroom, Drape It. It didn't hurt that Joe and Sally (the owners) are two more of my closest friends, so the whole project was really fun.

Lone agoooooo and farrrrr away.
We collaborated with my my drapery workroom, Drape It. It didn't hurt that Joe and Sally (the owners) are two more of my closest friends, so the whole project was really fun.
We started with this...............
And ended with this.............
and this.............
The walls and ceiling were crumbling plaster, so I had the brilliant idea to cover everything with blue and white ticking stripe. We upholstered the walls.....
But no.....
That wasn't enough for my tiny mind.
I wanted it to be special.....
I wanted it to be different.....
I WANTED TO KNOCK THE SOCKS OFF THE OTHER DESIGNERS!!!!!
Soooooooooooooooooo
I thought (OY, there I go again), wouldn't it be cooool, if we covered the ceiling too!!??
Joe (the good sport) said "alrighty".
There was only one leetle problem.
The walls curved up to meet the ceiling.
How the @#$ were we going to make the fabric conform to the curve.
Well..........
being brilliant!!!!!!!
I came up with a stupendously wonderful idea!!!
Since we were using ticking....and mattresses use ticking....and mattresses are buttoned....why not use a button detail to make the fabric cling to the curve.
I know right? Brilliant!!
You can see the buttoning really well in this picture.
Here's a close up.....
This is how we did it...........
(Joe figured it out.) (He is such a smarty) (Even thought he does make fun of me.)
We marked out the pattern by using big push pins..... Then he used his super duper drill, and drilled screws into the wall, replacing the push pins..... Then I used his button machine, and made a gazillion buttons. I only did the top part, (the curved part that is covered in fabric), not the shank that is used to sew them onto clothes. I covered them in the ticking fabric.
Then.....I went along behind Joe, and hot glued them over the screw heads.
We did this on the 4th of July. I remember it really clearly. Just Joe and me, fabricing the walls, and getting the buttons up. It was one of the most fun 4th's I've ever had.
I know other DYI'ers will understand that. There is no thrill, like the thrill of a project that is ACTUALLY working out.
Here's the view looking into the room from the hall...
On this note, I will continue showing this room and its bathroom, and sharing the decorating details, over the next few days.
Don't forget!!!
Tuesday is Answer Tuesday.
I'm leaning towards the name: Q&A!! OY VEY!!
what do you guys think?

PS...perfect name for your Tuesday blog
I gotta tell ya, many many rooms would not stand the test of 14 years, but that room looks just as fresh, creative, and pretty now as it did then. :)
Beautiful and timeless...LOVE the button detail!
Betsy, thanks for letting me know. I am surprised you were even able to find me doing a search, it is so hard to get Beachnut Lane to come up in a search engine unless I write it as one word BeachnutLane. I also had no idea there was no hyperlink when I post! When I click on my name it goes right to my blog, so unless you told me I would never had found out! Thanks!
Holy Batman!!!!!!

You say this was a long time ago but it looks timeless to me. I'm not a real fan of blue, but at the seaside, I LOVE it! I've done fabric ceilings but not to this beautiful extent. Love it and the details.
Betsy, Glad you got so many followers..you deserve it. The room is great and I love the sailing ship pillow. Bet it was one of those great decorative pieces that was "to the trade only". :)
Have a great week,
Babs

Beautiful room makeover!
Hi Betsy!
Thanks for stopping by and leaving such a nice comment. I love the whole room and especially love the detail on the window treatment and the color scheme. Following you!
Hi Betsy,
I first met you in Decorating (Summer 1990) through your "By the Sea" article. I fell in love with everything you put into your tiny Cape Cod cottage and immediately shopped for identical wall plate stands, floral pillows, and green stem goblets that I still use. I have a file filled with tear sheets from magazines over the years...and then you disappeared....until Maison Decor brought you back into my life. I love your style and consider you my decorating muse. Your blogspot is delightful - instructional, humorous, and inspirational. Thanks for revisiting your past projects many of which are in my file. P.S. Did you ever marry your contractor, Paul Sabin,
Your fan,
Joy

Well I don't want your head to explode or anything, but that wall/ceiling treatment was genius! *winks* Amazing job! And where do you find such wonderful pillows? Vanna
I suspect you succeeded in blowing away the other designers. I've never seen anything like that and I would never have imagined it before I saw it, ever. Of course, I'm not a designer, so I'm not that imaginative, but I'm a pretty big consumer of design photographs and I know that's pretty special. However, a teeny voice in my head inquires persistently whether the plaster was really in need of repair, and whether it ever got the repair it needed...I worry about old houses.
Also, I feel it necessary to note that the reason I am not a "follower" in google's view is because that requires me to subscribe to the blog through google reader, which I do not use. I follow the old-fashioned way: I drop in every day (or every other day) and visit. I have read every single post and also looked at every picture of your Florida house on the other website. So, I feel my loyalty is beyond question.
Beyond beautiful. Love the tufting in the ceiling curves. Really a unique and creative idea. I know your clients were blown away. Thanks for sharing your creativeness at Sunday's Best. I'm following you, so I sure hope your following me!
ooohhhh, ahhhh! Love this room! The color palette is so beautiful, calm and serene...perfect for the bedroom. Thanks so much for sharing your work at my Show & Tell party. I love having you.

I'm a little late, it appears! But just now looking at this room and it's absolutely stunning! Would I ever love to live there! Have to tell you... though you may never see this post since you posted this in January... but you have definitely become my favorite. I get behind sometimes in reading my email, but when I do, I spend hours reading your posts and looking at your rooms. Love you style! Love it, love it, LOVE it! You're the best! Leslee in TN
I realize I'm a year late to the party (just discovered your blog, but have followed your work for years), but I saw that show house in person! My mom and I went. I remember your room vividly. It made me swoon. I'm down in DC now, soon to be a Fleridida transplant. Yeah, I'm the one that puts an extra syllable in it. Beth C.
