What a Difference a Rug Makes!!!!!

Yippee Doodle!!!!!
Kris and I finally found a rug for her master bedroom.
Not only that.....
but we ordered it!!!!!
Not only that.....
but we got it and had it put down on her very own bedroom floor!!!!!
We spent a ton of time looking in catalogs and retail stores, but nothing really peaked our fancy.
Soooooo....
I caved, and we went to Stark Carpet.
We found the perfect rug that is a herringbone jute.
For those of you interested, it is called: Chardon, color: Natural.
We chose a dark brown for the border....
Last we reviewed this room, it had looked like this.
The rug just makes it so much cozier!!!!!
Plus.....
we finally got the dust ruffle!!!
I'm the one who put it on the bed with Kris (my lovely assistant's) help.
That's why it's wrinkled.
When Drape It, the workroom that does all  the sewing that I don't want, or don't know how to do..... installs a dust ruffle, they steam it so all the wrinkles come out.
Well, I didn't have my steamer with me....
(and I didn't notice the wrinkles until I looked at the photos.....)
I love the herringbone with the stripes.
Lots of texture and subtle pattern.
Makes my toes curl!!!!
Notice how Drape It worked out the problem of the bed skirt fitting over the antique metal frame.
Kris lives in a very old house, over 100 years and counting.
Soooooo.....
a queen boxspring wouldn't fit up the stairs.
She had to get one made that was in two pieces.
There is a support under the middle, to keep them from sagging.
It's hidden in the middle of the bed.
I made Scott, (our installer, and the heir apparent of the workroom) keep moving the support until it wouldn't show in the pictures.
After-all.....
It's all about the blog photos!!!

To show you the difference a rug and bed skirt makes in a room.....
here's one of my very famous side by sides.....
Tomorrow we go to pick up the custom lampshades.
How exciting is this #$% anyway?????
Wait....before I go.....here's a before and after of when we started in the room!!!!

On that note,

Love the bedskirt!...The rug? Snooze. I cant do cartwheels over Natural....even with all the added excitement of BROWN trim. :-)

Did you know that Stark has a discount warehouse in Norwalk, CT, practically next door to me. Lots of good buys. How do you decide what blinds to pick? Did I miss that post? This is a double bed frame with a three inch overhang of a queen mattress, right? My favorite thing is a good lampshade. Preferably expensive. I like this room, it is very soothing.

geez - I don't want to be a killjoy . . but . . .really don't care for the rug in this room - to me you need an antique-y floral job . . . overall the room is too beige - but the iron bed is perfect!

It really does look cozy...and just in time for this bone-chilling cold! Stay warm...shouldn't you be in Flerida! ;)

I love it when you call it a Dust Ruffle! I once had a snooty sales lady chide me for calling it that. HEY! If only you'd had a blog back then... Barbara in Mn

35 years designing and I don't understand your short dust ruffles...antique beds offer a wonderful opportunity for custom long ruffles which add so much to the overall look of the bed, cozy, plush and custom designed.

It's always amazing to see what you do with a room and this one is truly lovely. However I too like the look of a floor length dust ruffle, but that's just me and besides think of all the crap you could hide under your bed! :)

Rugs are fantastic. I recently got a runner for the upstairs landing. It has just brought the landing to life.
Love the rug, love the décor and window treatment, but I have to admit I prefer the original bed. xx

I like the rug, and the iron beds. The shorter bed skirts go with the style of the room. Like I've said before I wish I were Kirs and you would do a room for me. Betsy is the best! Vikki in VA

I think it is those details that really make the room. Love it.

I love that bedroom, especially with the addition of the rug. It looks so inviting--I could just crawl right into that bed! ~Delores

One thing about decorating, you have to know when to show restraint. Every piece can't be the special piece, screaming "look at me, me, me!" Some elements have to be plain.

I do like the shorter dust ruffle; gives the bedroom a crisper feel and prevents dog hairs and dust bunnies from hitching a ride on the skirt..
Betsy..I am so fond of the sea grass and sisal rugs, esp as I have three standard poodles and the rugs can take abuse. and I would like to have my staircase done in it- if I could find someone who would tackle the job. Good or bad idea?

Beautiful! And thanks for the very good picture of the bed skirt over the box spring. I really like the edge of the platform having fabric that matches the skirt itself. I need to make the new bed skirt for our guest room bed; so glad I waited! I learn so much from you, Miss Betsy!
