West Palm Beach Master Bedroom

Decorating this room was a joy. I could do what I wanted with NO CLIENTS!!!! (not that clients aren't wonderful, sometimes, now and then, on a good day, when the moon is in the seventh house) This was another ebay adventure, hunting for the great deals, looking for the exact piece, searching for the unexpected. I taught myself how to make a dust ruffle, and found out that Lowe's sells rugs! Click on the picture of my cottage at the right of this column, and it will take you to my website, then click on the project button, and you will see the whole transformation of this room.

If you want to see the pictures on my blog BIGGER, click on them and they will GROW.

I just found out that those double lampshades are called Atomic lampshades. A vendor from Brimfield told me this when I was marveling at an incredible lamp with this huge two tier shade. He was quite shocked I had never seen one...and then all I could see were atomic lampshades all throughout Brimfield~and now here. Lovely makeover, you always make rooms look so pretty, I love how this one came out.

Those lamp shades are what a current client of mine wants. I have my great aunt's original lamps from this era that I remember her having in her living room when I was a kid. I've had offers by many to buy them. Nope, not for sale at any price. The sentimentality of them is priceless. Lovely master bedroom. It IS great fun to do a room the way we want it and to just please ourselves.

Ooh, I love this project. One of the reasons your blog is so fun to read is because it's so clear what the difference is between a good DIYer and a real pro - you have an outrageous range. So I am extremely proud to say that I thought of making a vintage embroidered linen table cloth (plus a standard contemporary duvet cover) into a really nice duvet cover ALL BY MYSELF. (I am not done sewing them together yet - I'm doing it by hand to get the stitches right against the embroidery - so I don't have a picture posted anywhere just yet.) Obviously making a bed skirt out of a table cloth is more creative, but I feel I deserve at least partial credit and I am unduly delighted with myself. Also, I really love the bed frame. And the rug too, actually - I'm generally more of an antique nut. FINALLY! If you are again in the position of wanting an antique frame and a queen mattress, I have a suggestion. For $16.95/pair on Amazon, you can get something by the brand "Bed Claw" that will extend a frame out sideways. Obviously full mattresses are also shorter, so you'd need to buy metal queen rails ($15 at a thrift store, generally), and two pairs of extender brackets ($34, with free shipping), and a lovely antique frame and your off-the-shelf queen mattress, and you're golden! I did this for my room - I ran into a few snags, but it ultimately worked and I'm very delighted. And WAY cheaper than the queen-sized antique bed frames I've seen ($800+).
