Changing a bed with paint

I had a client that wanted to redo her daughters bedroom with a pair of twin beds. Although this was for a college age young lady, she wanted to retain some of the childhood feel for her daughter while reworking the room into a second guest room. I looked all over for a nice pair of beds, but what I wanted didn't fit the bill of what she wanted until I found these on (wait for it...) ebay!

We needed to use a pair of beds that didn't have a big footboard, as there wasn't a lot of room at the end of the beds. I thought the shape of these would lend themselves to a pretty cottage effect if painted. When looking at a bed, make sure to take into account the height of the headboard, as the boxspring and mattress will take up a good 14 to 24 inches (depending on their indivigual thickness) and could cover the headboard's decorative detailing, leaving you with just a small part of the headboard showing. Since my client liked the idea of a painted bed, I wanted to find a pair with a really pretty sillouette.
I felt the carved accents and cutout detail would translate well in a painted bed.

I had a lot of fun accenting the details in a lighter paint color to add a little visual interest to the look.

Here's the bed made up and placed in the room.

With both beds set up against a pretty floral wallpaper I chose to go with the old fashioned fabrics I used for the bedskirts and pillows, the room took on a cozy charm (if I do say so myself).

Even when girls go off to college, sometimes the Mom has to hold on to their Teddys.

Betsy, that room is fabulous, pure and simple! I like your style of decorating. The beds in the room are really gorgeous especially painted. I love everything about the room. That is the kind of room I wanted as a teenager but somehow it didn't look like this one when my Mom was the "decorator". ---------Shannon

Very pretty! I'm a fan of taking "old" furniture and making it look new again with paint. So easy; so economical! Beautiful room.

Another great room! I love it! The beds looked amazing after the paint job, but the wallpaper and the bedskirts make it even more so. What a pretty room.

I've been toying with the idea of switching the full bed for 2 twins in my college aged daughters room as well. I just love rooms with 2 twins and your client's turned out lovely! Wondering, what are the paint colors you used?
Thanks, Susanne.
